Why “Rogue?”

Why the name Rogue Visual Design? We wanted a name that spoke to our desire to think outside the box, to step away from the “it’s always been done that way” mentality. We’re going ROGUE in our own industry! We also wanted our name to communicate that our industry has moved from 2D design to 3D BIM models. Through the VISUAL DESIGN process, our laser scans and other reality capture tools give dimensionality to walls, pipes, columns, and stairs, allowing our clients to bring the project site into their computers.

Company History

Rouge Visual Design’s first scanning project was in 2011. We were developing a structural Revit model of a historic Kansas City building based on 2D AutoCAD plans and elevations provided to us.  The 2D AutoCAD drawings were created after an external team spent several weeks measuring the building utilizing traditional methods (steel & laser tape). As we built the 3D Revit model referencing the 2D AutoCAD files, we discovered numerous discrepancies from floor to floor. Unfortunately, dimensional busts are common when utilizing old 2D drawings or employing traditional methods to document a building.  Rather than accepting erroneous information, Rogue Visual Design returned to the site and spent 1.5 days laser scanning the entire building.

Today, Rogue Visual Design is the oldest company to specialize in 3D laser scanning in our region. Companies large and small seek our expertise to provide laser scanning (LiDAR) services, serve as consultants, and provide training for their in-house scanning crews. Rogue’s BIM/CAD specialists regularly convert laser scans to CAD models for other laser scanning companies. We are honored to have supported our military on several projects including Fort Liberty (Green Beret) and Fallon Naval Air Station (Naval Fighter Weapons School/Top Gun). Rogue Visual Design is proud to work with companies and projects from coast to coast.
